CITY OF AUSTIN WATER/WASTEWATER, Austin, TX 1999 – 2000

Sr. Maintenance Mechanic
Leader responsible for electrical and mechanical repairs of Automated Storage and Retrieval machinery. Maintained and repaired all extrusion equipment and related gear, including computerized DC power drives/motors, PCV extruders, and chilled-water systems. Significant contributions include:
• Reviewed/modified the 36 volt battery recharging procedures, resulting in a 200% efficiency increase.
• Trained the distribution warehouse technicians to maintain battery and process reliability.
• Designed and built new thrust bearing assembly for an extruded film slitter increasing bearing life from 14 days to 6+ months.
U.S. NAVY 1977 – 1983
Gas Turbine Systems Electrician
GSE2 (2nd class petty officer, E5). As the lead GSE of the Engineering Department, responsibilities included assigning work details and scheduling preventative maintenance. Tracked crew training profiles to ensure the E-1 division remained in compliance. Other duties included set up of underway and in port watch duty roster for the engineering department. Career began as a Navy Nuclear Electrician, working in that capacity until transferring to the Gas Turbine Electrician rating. Technician for ship board engineering department and at shore repair facilities (as a reservist).
• Division lead for a 12 man crew of Gas Turbine Systems electrical and mechanical technicians.
• Administered the engineering departments (E-1 division) Preventative Maintenance program.
• Drove engineering changes for all Perry class frigates commissioned at the time by discovery of a fleet wide issue in the gas turbine fuel valve controls electronics.
• Trained fleet GSE and GSM technicians in proper maintenance and operating procedures for Perry class frigates at SIMA facilities.
