Work experience

a) BG Egypt, May ’08 to till date
Package Manager

Currently assigned to BG, Egypt as a Package Manager on the Phase VII WDDM Main Compression Project.

The Project is for BURULLUS GAS COMPANY, which is a joint venture company set up by EGAS, BG and PETRONAS, which owns and operates the Burullus gas terminal and the associated sub-sea production facilities. The terminal is on the Egyptian Mediterranean coast, approximately 50 km of Alexandria.

Since the field pressure is depleting, Phase VII compression project is being undertaken to boost the supply of gas (2560 MMSCFD) from 28 bara and lower up to 59 bara.

The phase VII compression project envisages 5 trains of centrifugal compressors driven by aero derivative Gas Turbines of ~ 30 Mw. Involved in the FEED for deciding the Compression train configuration and finalization of the specifications. The complete evaluation process was undertaken in-house and I was the Lead for the techno-commercial evaluation process for the compressor trains. The compression trains worth ~100 Mio USD were successfully awarded in Dec 08 and the engineering has commenced.

b) Reliance Industries Ltd: Dy General Manager-Mechanical.
Nov 2006 to May 2008

Engineering of Onshore Terminal for processing of 80 MMSCMD of gas from Krishna Godavari field (named KG D6) offshore East Coast of India. I was responsible for Mechanical Engineering discipline.

The KG-D6 development consists of sub sea wells upto Controls and Riser Platform (CRP). Three 24” trunk lines carry the production from the CRP to the Onshore Terminal (OT).
Processing facilities on OT include separation, dehydration and export of the gas. Facilities also include related utilities (30Mw GTG - SGT 700 supplied by Siemens and CiTech for WHRUs, MEG Injection/regeneration for subsea pipelines engineered by Aker Kvaerner Process Systems, Oslo Norway), hot oil unit, etc. Engineering contractor was Aker Kvaerner, Australia/India.

Key responsibilities included complete multi - disciplinary engineering co ordination with Engineering consultants, Suppliers, and construction agencies. Headed a team of 8 engineers at various levels, who were responsible for mechanical engineering activities for specifying, selection and engineering of various mechanical equipment and packages which include major equipment/packages like 30 Mw GTGs (SGT 700 of Siemens), 400 barg discharge pressure MEG Injection Pumps supplied by Peroni, Italy, Air compressors from Atlas Copco and Flowserve Make High temperature Hot oil Pumps, TEG packages, utility packages like STP, ETP, Potable water units etc.

Attended PTC 22 tests of the turbines at Siemens, Finspong and other major FATs.

British Gas Exploration &Production I Ltd:
July 2004 to June 2006

BGEPIL is a subsidiary of parent company British Gas Plc, UK. BGEPIL operates the Panna/Mukta and Tapti fields, located offshore in the west coast of India, contributing over ten per cent to India’s total oil and gas production in partnership with ONGC and Reliance.

I was the Lead Mechanical Engineer with independent responsibility for Engineering of static, Rotating and Piping disciplines for the new projects being implemented.

Project/s:

1. New Revised Plan of Development (NRPOD), Tapti field August 2004 – 2006

The 450 M US$ project involved development of Tapti field, located west coast offshore India with Ranhill-Worley, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as FEED contractor. This project involved concept development and FEED for the processing complex TCPP which included design and engineering of three phase separation, Gas Compressors, Gas Dehydration and Export, Condensate system and one well head platform (Mid-Tapti). The major FEED output (Mechanical discipline) was deciding the compressor configuration, crane capacity, condensate pumps. Piping specifications, mechanical handling study, equipment layouts and a preliminary piping 3D PDMS model.

Major Achievements:

• Supervised the engineering contractors’ team of Mechanical and Piping engineers towards successful completion of FEED and advanced stage of Detailed engineering.
• Complete evaluation of the compression module worth ~ 38 mio USD without any external support. The ordered compressors were 2 Nos Solar make, driven by MARS100 GTs.
• Managed to eliminate costly Dry Gas seal back up buffer vessel system during the post lube cycle, thereby reducing the Nitrogen consumption and overall weight reduction on the platform. Estimated cost savings of ~ 700,000 USD
• Simplified Dry Gas Seal start up system by utilizing Ampliflow. Estimated cost savings of ~ 100,000 USD.

2. Panna Capacity Enhancement Project, Panna Process Platform August 2004 – July 2005

The 48 M US $ project involves debottlenecking of existing processing facilities at Panna offshore platform; with Worley Parsons, Melbourne. The project comprises installation of 3rd gas compressor and its integration to the existing compressor. I was responsible for preparing the detailed enquiry specifications, technical evaluation, recommendation and purchase specification of this entire compression module, without any assistance from external agency/Consultant.

Major Achievements:

• Successfully completed technical evaluation of the compressor module ( worth ~ 18 mio ) dollars without any external help of a consultant.
• Successfully completed engineering, Vendor data review of the compressor module without any external help of a consultant.
• Compressor train was successfully commissioned in June 2006.

3. Expanded Plan of Development (EPOD), Panna-Mukta Field Nov 2004 – June 2005

The 150 M US $ project involved Detailed Design of 3 well head platforms PH, PJ and STD with Clough/L&T Valdel- India. The work profile includes review and validation of all the mechanical equipment, Piping & utility systems. The major mechanical equipments were deck cranes, separators and other utility pressure vessels. The job responsibility involved supervision of engineering by the consultant.

4. Temporary Compression Project, Tapti Process Platform July 2004 – Oct 2004

I joined the 20 M US $ project during detailed design and carried out by Aker Kvaerner, Mumbai. This project comprised of Solar make Centaur 50 driven process gas compressors, wet gas exchanger, sea water system and high capacity internals for three phase separators & glycol contactors. The project was successfully commissioned in October 2004 realizing an additional gain of 70 MMSCFD in gas throughput amounting to additional revenue generation of 84 M US$ / annum.

(July2002-July2004)

The organization is an EPIC contractor for building Offshore oil & gas platforms.
Job responsibilities include supervision of engineering activities of Static & Rotating Equipment, Package units, and FATs. Besides the above, normal functions of a group head like, manhour planning and control, training, and resource planning are part of the responsibilities.

Uhde India Ltd.: Dy. General Manager- Rotating Equipment.
March 1989 to April 2002

Worked as a Group Head of the Machinery engineering group.

Job responsibilities included;
• Supervision of detailed engineering activities of all Rotating equipment and utility packages like refrigeration, air conditioning units, cooling towers, and HVAC.
• Inspection, commissioning and troubleshooting assistance of rotating equipment.
• Support for Proposal engineering.
• Manhour estimation, control, training, QA and resource planning.

I was involved in engineering of various rotating equipment and utility packages for Petrochemical, Chemical, Fertiliser, Refinery, and Pharmaceutical projects in India, Germany, Malaysia and South Africa on Cost+fee and LSTK basis.
I was deputed to parent company’s offices Krupp Uhde, Dortmund-Germany, on several short and long term assignments for assistance in engineering of their projects.

Deputed to Mobil refinery in Germany for assessing the residual life/reusability of the machinery items for a proposed relocation of refinery to India.
