| 1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory] |
I have held senior commercial roles for over 20 yrs with major oil companies. Prior to this I held accounting positions for a number of large organisations, both local and International.
Since 1987 I have run large high value commercial organisations both supply chain and wholesale product sales. In the oil business this included asset swaps and M&A activities. This was gained working on very large construction projects in various parts of the world, negotiating all the terms and conditions of many different types of contracts.
More recently I was head hunted to take up the Head of Maintenance, Commercial for the whole of the UK’s rail system. Completely redesigning the supply chain (both materials and services) and the ethos of the way the Maintenance part of the business did its work. The result of this was to reduce the annual non-wage bill from Ł240 million to Ł150 million per annum.
|
| 2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory] |
Fellow of the Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA) and has an MBA from the University of Warwick, Business School (he continues to be on the Alumni Board). He has used his original accountancy qualifications as a stepping stone to direct business and entrepreneurial activities, through commercial roles both sales and supply chain.
He has worked in the Oil & Gas business since 1978 at various locations around the world, mainly for Mobil Oil Corp (latterly ExxonMobil) but also since 2000 in his consultancy company. Locations worked in are: – Norway (7 yrs), Canada (3 yrs), USA (1 yr), mainland Europe (Germany, Holland, Denmark/Faroes), Ireland (2yrs), Brazil, and UK.
His initial assignment in the oil business was on very large offshore construction projects in Norway & Canada, the first costing $1.8 billion in money of the day the largest $11 billion (Hibernia, Canada) in 1987. Whilst starting as the Project Accounting Manager he was continually drawn into contractual areas negotiating deals and settling claims. It became clear he enjoyed the commercial work more than straight accountancy and so on his last 4 projects was the Contracts Manager and commercial lead.
Returning to the UK in 1987 he became the Commercial Manager/Director of Mobil North Sea Ltd in London. Its activities are based in the UK/Europe continental shelf where he managed a sizeable group but also negotiated sales of wholesale natural gas, crude, LNG and pipeline capacity as well as engineering straight commercial M&A deals such as; joint interest, development, drilling and other commercial agreements for oil consortia holding offshore licences. Much of this work resulted in the approval of the physical development of offshore projects, so economics and deliverables were a key part of the job scope. He has also been involved in company restructuring and change management initiatives as well as agreements to optimise fiscal arrangements. He negotiated one of the biggest relinquishment of gas sales agreements for assets deals with BG prior to its privatisation – without this British Gas wouldn’t have been able to split and float Centrica.
He trained in the West Country working for the CEGB and Wessex Water Authority later assuming senior accounting roles in; audit, financial & management accounting and construction settlements. The later experience led to his moving overseas and expanding his construction experience. Since leaving ExxonMobil in 2000 he has worked in his consultancy company with assignments for Shell, Conoco, Enterprise, Gulf Oil, Talisman Inc. etc. In 2003 he was head hunted to work for Network Rail to undertake a change project. As Head of Maintenance, Commercial for the whole of Network Rail he reorganised the complete supply chain, materials, services and road fleet taking some 30% out of the non-wage bill.
Currently he provides consulting, interim management and construction contract development services in a number of industries predominately oil, gas and NGL’s in: Canada, New Zealand, continental Europe and UK. His work is normally the commercialisation of a new capital investment projects (crude, derivatives, gas or LNG), major change projects or development of construction contracts (EPC etc.) with emphasis on supply chains of all types. He brings to these development areas deep knowledge of on going operations having been responsible for both in his career.
He believes working in a number of industries provides good skills sets which are transferable and which add value to any business enterprise. He is available on a permanent or contract basis.
