I am twenty five years old and am seeking a new direction in life. I am a friendly outgoing professional young man with a keenness for life and all it can throw at me.
After serving for eight and a half years in the Royal Navy specialising in the field of Marine Engineering as an Engineering Technician, I am a dynamic team player with a friendly outgoing personality who is self motivated and enthusiastic. I am a natural problem solver who is experienced in working to strict command deadlines and my often innovative approach has brought workloads and projects to a successful conclusion. I am also an excellent communicator at any level, who is equally happy to work alone or as a team member. Conscientious and versatile I enjoy a challenge, whilst my attention to detail and considerable organisational skills mean I can readily accept responsibility

2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]

MAY 2001 – CURRENT: Engineering Technician, Royal Navy
Having left the civilian world to pursue a career in the Royal Navy I have had plenty of practical, hands-on experience. I joined the RN in May 2001 and underwent 8 weeks of basic training at HMS RALEIGH. I then went on to my professional training at HMS SULTAN where I spent 8 weeks learning about Basic Marine Engineering principles, as well as ship’s equipment and systems. A weekly exam ensured that all I was being taught was understood and that a satisfactory level of competence was achieved.

Following my training, I joined HMS SOUTHAMPTON, on which I spent three years completing my Apprenticeship. Whilst on SOUTHAMPTON I qualified as a sea watch keeper, meaning I was responsible for overseeing the day to day running of many of the ship’s systems. Once I had enough experience I then helped in the training of other Engineering Technicians onboard. Whilst on the SOUTHAMPTON I also completed two challenging Operational Deployments.

I then went on to work at the afloat repair section in HMNB Clyde, where I specialized in mechanical engineering for the MCMV Fleet. This involved both working in a small team and on my own, carrying out maintenance on the Hunt Class and Sandown Class MCMVs. I was also deployed for extended periods in the Middle East, carrying out work on major engineering defects on deployed units.

I was then drafted to HMS BROCLESBY for 2 years, where I worked as the Outside Machinery Spaces Technician. This role involved the maintaining of various systems ranging from hydraulic steering gear to the ships sanitary treatment plant. My specialist area was Fuel/Oils Logistics, however a routine section change meant I was employed as the ships’ diesel generator maintainer for 6 months.

I then served on HM Ships SHOREHAM and WALNEY, which are both Sandown Class MCMVs. Due to the experience gained on HMS BROCLESBY I was Head of Section covering ships diesel generators whilst onboard HMS WALNEY. During this time I was responsible for ensuring all maintenance and defect rectification was carried out to exacting standards so as to provide power to the Command.

For the last seven months I have been part of the engineering team onboard HMS BLYTH, which is also a Sandown Class MCMV. This draft has seen me being deployed operationally to the Northern Arabian Gulf for 7 months which has proved to be a very challenging engineering environment, but has also given me more responsibility and has helped me tone my skills as a mechanical engineer. I covered Head of Section of the Diesel Generators for several months, during which time I oversaw a generator change and multiple maintenance periods. Now employed as Main Engines technician I carry out day to day running maintenance and defect rectification on the ship’s main propulsion system. I also maintain the HP Air system throughout the ship, ensuring clean air for breathing apparatus and the Transportable Manned Compression Chamber (TMCC). I have also worked as the maintainer for the complex Voith Schneider propulsion system, as well as managing the duty roster for the Department.

For the past eight years in the Royal Navy, my core role onboard a warship has been to provide engineering support to the Marine Engineering Officer. For the past year I have been working closely with the MEO onboard HM Ships SHOREHAM, WALNEY and BLYTH, helping to ensure the Engineering Department can provide propulsion and generation to the Command. I have also carried out regular duties as the Duty Technician whilst the ship was alongside, which meant I was responsible for the running of the Department, including waste water, the paralleling of the ship’s generators and ship stability.
