I am capable of either working as part of a team or as an individual as the job requires I understand the importance of working to deadlines while still keeping a high standard of work and safety. | 2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory] |
1989-1991
Newgate Fabrications
Apprentice learning basic steel fabrication and welding techniques. Attended college on day release to gain NVQ qualifications.
1991-1994 Barrier Offshore
Joyce Buildings Haverton Hill Industrial Estate,Haverton Hill Road, Billingham, Cleveland, TS23 1PZ.
–Completed my apprenticeship and college course at Barrier Offshore and was offered a position as a plater. Learned how to read technical drawings and use all types of fabrication equipment such as burning gear, Shears, Drills, Rollers etc. Became very competent in different types of welding including MMA and MIG. Worked alone and as part of a team on various projects for the oil and gas industry such as handrails, pipe supports, access ladders and various steel structures including platforms and walkways fitted with Kennedy grating.
1994-2008 Stokesley Welding
Terry Dicken Ind Est, Station Rd, Stokesley.
Stokesley Welding I made the decision to start my own business in steel fabrication and I’ve had quite a roller coaster ride that lasted for 14 years. In this time I learned how to use my resourcefulness to overcome problems encountered with running a small business. The company completed a very wide variety of work from garden gates to steel building frames and had regular projects for the oil and gas industry in the way of handrails, pipe supports and access ladders etc. Many of the jobs we did required me to work away from home for a number of days. I had 10 employees, so have gained a lot of experience in workshop management and learned how to use my communication skills in order to manage jobs and the best person for that job. I used a wide variety of tools and machinery and became very competent in site work where initiative needs to be used to get the job completed. I worked to health and safety guidelines as a priority. I worked to deadlines regularly and understand fully the requirement for quality workmanship. I learned that reliability in a person is very important.
2008- Present time
Sterling Coachworks
Ellerbeck Way,Stokesley Industrial Park,Stokesley,Middlesborough,Cleveland,TS9 5JZ
After 14 years of running my own business, I was approached by the Directors of Sterling Coachworks. I had completed various successful projects with Sterling throughout my 14 years at Stokesley Welding and they felt that I would be a valuable asset to their company. They offered me a position with responsibility in their company, building plant bodies for commercial vehicles. I was ready for a new challenge as I felt that I had taken Stokesey Welding as far as I could, so I decided to accept the job offer. I learned new skills such as vehicle electronics and hydraulics as well as using my existing skills as a plater. I was chosen to work on site and worked away from home for a number of nights when required as I proved that I was reliable and trustworthy. When work started to become scarce, I used my old contacts to get some work for my employers and again found myself fabricating ladders and handrails for the offshore industry. In the current recession we are in, Sterling Coachworks have been hit hard, they have had to lay some of their workforce off until work picks up. After only one year at Sterling I proved to be a key employee as they have kept me employed over several other tradesmen that had been employed by them for many years longer than myself.
