Currently I am working as Secondment Process Engineer in Process Engineering Division of KNPC-Shuaiba Refinery from 18th June, 2008 to till date. I am responsible for Gas Treating Section which comprises of Flare system and Flare Gas Recovery, Refinery Fuel Gas System, Amine Treating, Naphtha Fractionation, Burgan Oil Field Low Pressure and KOC High Pressure Gas Compression system and ATK Merox Unit-17.

I had the privilege to serve in Pakistan’s largest and State of Art PARCO, Mid-Country Refinery having a capacity of 100,000 BPSD. I worked as a Process Engineer for 8 years at LPG Recovery and sweetening, Naphtha stabilizer, Amine treating, Sulfur Recovery and Visbreaking Units. I participated in the per-commissioning, commissioning activities and performance test evaluations of these units.

I am working as Secondment Process Engineer in Process Engineering Division of KNPC-Shuaiba Refinery from 18th June, 2008 to till date. I am responsible for Gas Treating Section, which comprises of the following Units.

1. Flare System and Flare Gas Recovery Unit-29
2. Refinery Fuel Gas System U-29.
3. Amine Treating Unit-14.
4. Naphtha Fractionation Unit-09.
5. Burgan Oil Fied Gas (Low Pressure Gas Compression System U-01)
6. High pressure Gas Compression System from Kuwait Oil Company.
7. ATK Merox Unit-17.
8. Hydrogen Manufacturing (Steam Reformer) and compression Units.

Current Job Responsibilities

My current job responsibilities on these units are as follows:

1. Monitoring the unit performance with respect to following variables for continuous improvement.

• Material and Energy Balance of the Units.
• Naphtha and Kero Yield Monitoring.
• Maximize the Recovery of Flared Gases.
• Flare Monitoring.
• Crude and feed composition.
• Preparation of units Daily Production Report.
• Critical Equipment Monitoring.
• Heater Efficiency Monitoring.
• H2S Monitoring in Naphtha.
• Minimization of Amine losses.
• Loading of H2S in Lean and Rich Amine (MEA).
• ATK Reactor catalyst performance.
• Salt Filter & Clay Filter Efficiency Monitoring.
• ATK product monitoring w.r.t RSH & Color
• Catalyst & Chemical Budgeting.

2. Provide day-to-day assistance to the Operations and Management regarding the yield and quality improvement.

3. Reduced the H2S in Naphtha to meet the stringent international requirement.

4. To prepare daily performance summaries to monitor units by studying laboratory test reports, standard log sheets and other daily operating activity reports, and to take the appropriate corrective actions.

5. To collect monthly plant production and operating data, evaluates unit efficiencies by relating chemicals and energy consumption and prepares reports with comments.

6. To develop computer programs for process plants monitoring, yield prediction, and apply computer simulation models and other advanced techniques to achieve optimum plant performance.

7. Catalyst performance of the ATK Merox Unit

8. Acid loading (H2S, mole/mole) of rich/lean amine in both amine treating.

9. Trouble shootings for flooding, foaming and corrosion control at Amine Treating.

10. To comply with all company Health, Safety and Environment as well as Work Permit, policies and procedures.

11. To study required alterations of technical nature, in order to meet variations in production plans and/or a varying feedstock.

12. Applied experience of process designing including process computer simulation, development of PFD’s and P&ID’s equipment sizing and specifications, line sizing, hydraulics calculation, project handling.

13. To participate in the identification of possible solutions in process problem areas, which will include analyzing operating reports and discussing problem items with the departments concerned.

14. To compile/provide input for preparation of division/department Capital and Operating budgets, and monitor/control expenditure.

15. To suggest different proposals of modifications in processes through Technical Review and HAZOP Study and their execution to solve the operational problems.

16. To attend daily morning meeting to report the units status to the head of the department.

17. To attend monthly departmental co-ordination and safety meetings.

18. Expertise in leading multi-disciplinary teams on operational and maintenance trouble-shooting and participate in incident investigations & problem solving of these units. Provide high-level input on Process Philosophy, Safety and debottlenecking studies.

19. Expertise in leading multi-disciplinary teams on operational and maintenance trouble-shooting and participate in incident investigations & problem solving of these units. Provide high-level input on Process Philosophy, Safety and debottlenecking studies.

20. Familiarity with all process design safety requirement, including experience of HAZOP, SIL, and Hazardous Area Classification.

21. To prepare bar charts and plan turnaround related activities including shutdown /start-up, catalyst unloading/loading and other activities.

Major Achievements in Shuaiba Refinery:

• Commissioning of Interim solution of Rich Gas injection in the suction of LP Gas compressor for smooth operation of refinery.
• Worked as core member in erection & pre-commissioning activities of new project of Rich Gas Injection facility.
• Telemetry facility for Gas Net Work from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to Shuaiba Refinery,
• To provide assistance to KIMS to develop Refsys model of Naphtha fractionation Unit for supply chain optimization project.
• Investigation of exact location of blockage in Debutanizer Reboiler heater pass due to less flow which avoid the whole refinery shutdown.
• To monitor and control the H2S level in Refinery fuel Gas to control SOx emission.
• Supervision of Chemical Cleaning of old rich gas injection line.
• Preparation for receiving facility of Mono-ethanol Amine (MEA) in ISO tanker to avoid Amine spillage and Unloading of first ISO tank successfully.
• Catalyst Reduction of Low Temperate Shift Convertor at Hydrogen Unit.
• Impregnation of Activated charcoal of Kero Merox Reactor.
• Selection, procurement and installation of new compressor for ATK Merox Unit.
• Process design for provision of Lean Gas to pilots of Flare system.
• Process design for reduction of H2S level in Refinery Fuel Gas System.

Process Engineer in Pak-Arab Refinery (PARCO) Multan, Pakistan
(From July 2000~ June 2008)

I worked as Process Engineer in Process Engineering Division of Technical Department from July-2000 to 18th June, 2008 in the state of art refinery in Pakistan known as Pak-Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO) which is a Joint venture between government of Pakistan and United Arab Emirates with investment of US $ 886 million. I worked on Gas Concentration, LPG Recovery and sweetening, Naphtha stabilizer Sulfur Recovery, Amine treating and Visbreaking Units.

PARCO Project Phase Experience:

• I have participated in the pre-commissioning and commissioning activities of LPG Recovery and sweetening, Naphtha stabilizer Sulfur Recovery, Amine treating and Visbreaking Units.

• I Worked, as a member of Joint Commissioning Team (JCT), comprises of PARCO, UOP and Cosmo Engineers during Commissioning & Master start up phase of the refinery.

• Member of the Integrated MCR Project Team for Evaluation of Performance & Guarantee LPG Recovery and sweetening, Naphtha stabilizer and Hydrogenating, Amine treating and Visbreaking Units.

• Dry out of Process Heaters and Pressure testing of equipments.

• Preparation of Planned and Emergency Shutdown Procedures.

• Preparation of procedures and performed the activities of Catalyst Loading/Unloading Activities.

PARCO Turn Around Experience:

I have effectively participated in turn around held in Oct-01 and Mar-07. My responsibilities during the turn around were as follows:

• Inspection of the major columns.
• Monitoring of the modifications.
• Catalyst, salt and clay loading/unloading activities of ATK Merox Unit Activities.
• Chimney tray level checking.
• Supervision and preparation of procedures for steam-air decoking of fired heaters conducted first time in Pakistan.
Achievements in PARCO:

• Performed de-bottlencek study enabling a successful performance test of LPG Recovery and sweetening, Naphtha stabilizer Sulfur Recovery, Amine treating and Visbreaking Units.
• Successfully conduct the test run to operate the VBU heaters at higher severity to reduce the cutter stock in fuel oil blend in winter season.
• Steam-air decoking of heater coils of Visbreaker Heaters.
• Core Member of a team which prepared an in-house dynamic data modules enabling provision of DCS real time data to the desktop PC’s thus enabling optimization of process units through remote monitoring.
• Member of the team responsible for successful implementation of Honeywell’s “Uniformance”, a Process History Database (PHD) system.
• Compressor interstage knockout vessel level control problem was rectified by doing a temporary modification to avoid the flaring, which resulted in saving of 0.3 million rupees per month.
• GCU was successfully operated first time with out compressor during maintenance of Turbine (411-C1T). Unit was kept on line due to better planning and team work resulting in saving of 3.57 million rupees.
• VBU heater coils chocked due to malfunctioning of heaters back pressure control valve. Later on heater coils were mechanically cut and cleaned. Matter was studied and a mechanical stopper with 10 % opening was provided at control valve to avoid the reoccurrence of the incident.

Working Experience on DCS (YOKOGAWA CENTUM-CS):

Refineries DCS system is the latest one in the sense of controlling. I have a complete knowledge of operational controlling of plant from DCS, monitoring the units by PICS (Process information and control system), Trend analysis, Problem sorting, and programming of units.

Process Engineer at Pakistan Refinery Limited (October, 1999~June, 2000)

I worked with Pakistan Refinery Limited, Karachi as Process Engineer. I involved in the catalyst regeneration of fixed bed reactor of plat-forming unit and have the working experience of Kerosene and Naphtha Hydro treating Unit
