1. Summary (Cover Letter) - CV/Resume Part 1 [Mandatory]

I wish to explore new avenues of work and feel that the offshore industry offers and fulfills many of these criteria

I have significant experience in working through the whole of a contracts life, with specific experience in the Oil and Gas and Nuclear Industries, and have developed a number of the commercial strategies that Amec have used on Outages within the UK.

I appreciate the importance of Cost Control and Managing the cost to the benefit of the project whether this is identifying changes to the requirements of the client or in feeding back information to the Project Manager that allows him to make decisions that could increase the returns of the contract

I enjoy the challenges of working on a project and especially in identifying the risks and opportunities that may affect the performance of a contract at a later date.

On the majority of Projects I have completed, I also carried out the month end Cost and Values as well as forecasting. This included the updating of the risk register and reporting on any issues

On the majority of the projects I have worked on the engagement of Sub Contractors and Procurement has been significant. The enquiries, assessment and engagement of these were all carried out by the project team. This was especially important when developing the sub contracts to reflect the strategies of the main contract.

On maintenance contracts I have re negotiated and developed strategies of usage for all of the clients Subcontractors and Suppliers (approx 60)

I have worked throughout the United Kingdom on a number of sites using various styles of contract including Target Cost, Fixed and Incentivised Nett Cost, as well as having commercially managed areas / regions for various companies.

2. Work Experience - CV/Resume Part 2 [Mandatory]

June 2009- Present
Joined Amec Major projects (Self Employed) as Cost Manager with the intention to look at all areas of cost and to align the data collection, analysis and reporting both internally and externally for all projects within the sector.
The role includes setting up robust cost procedures at the commencement of a project so that a common standard can be attained. The aim is to produce standard cost reporting systems which will be readily transferable to all projects with the aim that the information can be used for benchmarking similar projects for future use.
On a project by project basis this will also include Cost at a point in time, Cost forecasting as well as collecting data to show Productivity, Variations etc.
It is also the intention to align this with their cost accounting system so that it can be readily identified that the Costs that can be claimed under the terms of the contract are claimed.
The Role includes all aspects of expenditure including Management, Supervision Labour as well as understanding 3rd Party contract styles and how the reporting of their costs fits into the contract requirements
Commenced on West Burton Power Station Contract ( NEC 3) value approx £123 million with the aim of enhancing the cost procedure and install the items discussed above.

Feb 2008 – May 2009 – Commercial Manager – TOTAL – LOR OSBL Contract Immingham
Working with Amec (Self Employed) as Commercial Manager on the above Project. Role commenced after contract award this being an Eight Kilometre pipeline installation in a live plant, feeding the construction of a new plant on the Lindsey Oil Refinery Plant at Immingham
The contract is a Target Cost Contract using I Chem E Burgundy book with a approx value of £14 million to be completed by April 2009
My Role Includes
• Collection of all costs to develop Cost Report and Anticipated Final Costs for Project Manager and Client
• Management of Risk Register internally
• Preparation of all information for variations
• Sub Contractors – Sending out enquiries, producing appraisals and placing Sub Contracts. Monitoring of Costs and agreement of Valuations
• The authorisation of Material Purchases as well as monitoring of costs
• Reconciliation of Internal costs for Auditing and valuation purposes
• All Invoicing and Internal authorisation of third party expenditure
Contract includes the following elements
• Approximately 20,000 off site fabrication man hours
• Approximately 70,000 on site installation man hours
• 7700 metres of pipe

July 2007 – Feb 2008 – Commercial Manager – Amec – Aromatics1 Outage North Tees

April 2007 – June 2007 – Commercial Manager – Amec – GTU Benzene Outage Grangemouth

Worked on the above outages with Amec (Self Employed) as Commercial Manager. Had a major role in developing final control estimate for both outages, this included client’s elements, and was then used to develop a Total Target and Incentive scheme.
My role included the following
• Development of a Cost reporting strategy with Client and agreement of how Sub Contractors would be reported and Manage whether Amec or Client
• Cost Reporting to client for all Amec elements as well as a twice weekly supply of an A.F.C. which included explanations for variances
• Major input into Sub Contract strategy including advice on contract styles for both Amec and Client
• Sub Contractors – Sending out enquiries, producing appraisals and placing Sub Contracts. This also included pre outage kick off meetings to instil an understanding of the Roles and Responsibilities of each of the Sub Contractors
• Reconciliation of Internal costs for Auditing and valuation purposes
• All Invoicing and Internal authorisation of third party expenditure
• Production of Final Account
This contracts included the following elements
• Total Expenditure of approx 15 Million Aromatics , 4.5 Million GTU
• Incentivised Nett cost reimbursable contract
• Amec workforce Approx 320 Aromatics , 150 GTU
• Sub Contractors – Approx 20 contracts placed, with a total labour force of approx 280 people for Aromatics
August 2005 – March 2007 – Commercial Director - Interserve Industrial Services

Employed by Interserve to Commercially Manage the North East and British Energy regions. These two regions had a combined turnover of approximately £21 million in 2006.
My role included identifying areas of improvement within the current systems and setting up procedures to correctly control, guide and allow for strategies to be developed in terms of current contracts and future workload.
The task also involved making sure that the policies and guidelines stated by the PLC are correctly adhered to and applied to any works carried out.
For the North East the main area to develop was in terms of integrating mechanical and civil works and therefore the potential for sub contractors and suppliers being included within any future workload. This is being reflected in the type of work that is being tendered for in the North East.
For British Energy where the Multi Discipline Contract was awarded in September 2005 the challenges were in developing a contract that met the success criteria of the client whilst at the same time receiving little or no guidance. This was successful and was reflected in an estimated turnover of £7 million p/a, growing to £13 million in 2006.
The Main Activities that I carried out were
• Input into tenders including strategies on major bids and revue on minor tenders
• Input into the comments and clarifications for tenders
• Monthly revue of all work looking at margin performance and areas where costs can be improved upon, this includes challenging Project managers to understand the operational effects on commercial performance
• Development and control of Forecasting including a better understanding of margins and collating best practices for all contracts
• Reporting to the Board in terms of Value, Cash Flow, and Debt etc.
Major contracts won in this period
Shaws - Wilton 10 Scaffolding – 1.5 million over 10 months
BE – Training Facility Rebuild – 1.1 million in 4 months
BE – 4 outages in 2006 – 4.5 million from March – October
July 1996 – August 2005 Amec – Darlington Asset Support ( Amec Shutdowns and Maintenance)

September 02 till August 05 – Commercial Manager
Role of Commercial Manager for Eastern Region of Asset Support – This region had an annual budget of £29 million p/a. This was split between maintenance contracts, outages and projects, for clients such as Huntsman, BP, Dupontsa, Phillips, Texaco, LOR and Terra.
Role involved the following
• Managing the tender process for the region – this included checking that the risk registers were completed and adhered to, the Terms and Conditions were understood and that working rule agreements / productivity estimates had been applied.
• Developing the budgets and forecasting for each contract
• Monitoring performance via monthly contract revues, this included looking at margin as well as testing to see if the information within the tender was being used.
• Visiting and presenting to the client for future works, including post tender negotiations.
• Readiness revue’s for projects / outages – This involved making sure that any best practices and guidelines had been followed
• Due to being based in Darlington and therefore Asset Supports Head Office I was also tasked with engaging and supplying commercial support to all contractors as well as pulling together the reports at month end from the other commercial managers and producing one report for input to the Directors.

July 96 till September 02
Worked as a Senior Commercial representative on a number of overlapping outages on the Wilton Complex during this period. This included JVO6 for Huntsman, Acids 1 and 2 and KA for Dupont and T8 and Melinar 5 for Dupontsa. The aim was to develop a common thread and standard of information and also collate information in such a way as to collect benchmarking information for future works on the Wilton site and then take this learning to a national level. The value of the works during this period was approximately £27 million. Main Tasks carried out.
• Managed a number of Commercial teams present on the above outages taking them through planning, target development, execution and close out. In total three separate teams were developed (Eight people)
• Managed a central strategy in terms of sub contractors and suppliers to make sure no single 3rd party was overloaded and that expected standards were maintained. This included placing contracts with approximately 60 sub contractors / suppliers as well as managing another 30 for the client.
• Made sure any learning (Positive or Negative) was absorbed by all parties.
• This period also included Role of Commercial manager on DOW (UCL) at Wilton site. This role incorporated Maintenance, Projects and Outages, which in 2000 was valued at approximately £9million in value. The main task was to set up systems and procedures that would allow the many savings and improvements.

Jan 90 – May 96 Trainee Quantity Surveyor – Senior Quantity Surveyor - Faithful and Gould

Started work at Stockton office as Trainee and over period of time worked from taking off / package production to working as a maintenance Quantity Surveyor attached to Teesside Engineering Construction Services (TECS) based on Teesside. This mainly dealt with cost control and cost reporting at various ICI plants. Towards the end of my time at Faithful and Gould I then joined Teesside Overhauls Group (TOG) to work as Senior Cost Engineer on outages. This role was for the client and was mainly an auditing, control and cost report role bringing together the information supplied by various contractors.
